Nursery Philosophy and
Ministry of the Nursery
A full time nursery, staffed by trained and dedicated
nursery workers, is offered during every church function to
allow parents to enter into worship, Sunday School, and
other activities themselves. All paid nursery workers are
screened through the Alabama Department of Human Resources
to comply with Trinity Presbyterian Church Sexual Abuse
Prevention Policy. A criminal background check, provided by
the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, is also conducted on
each paid nursery worker.
The nurseries are to be
adequately staffed in order to provide for the safety and
well being of the children. Workers are provided with a copy
of Nursery Worker Guidelines and are expected to be familiar
with these guidelines and to follow them carefully. American
Red Cross CPR training is provided annually for the nursery
workers.
The Nursery Supervisor, who
is a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, assures the
nursery is fully and competently staffed for all church
functions. She also teaches a Bible story to the nursery
aged children on a weekly basis.
Nursery Worker Guidelines
1. At each nursery door,
a parent is handing us the most precious possession they
have -their child. As well as providing that child with
security, we must also provide the PARENTS with the security
of knowing that their child is well cared for in our
nursery. That is why we must be the best! Your influence in
the nursery is very important. A great deal of Christian
love can be relayed through the care and attention you give
to our young children.
2. Please ensure child is signed in properly upon arrival
and make sure parents have provided all necessary
information. Make sure child's name is on diaper bag. Only
the child's personal pacifier or bottle should be used for
him/her.
3. Check children frequently for wet or soiled diapers. No
child should leave the nursery with a dirty diaper! Use
child's own diapers if provided in diaper bag.
4. Use disposable paper under each child when changing
diapers. Dispose of paper after each changing.
5. Please wash hands after each diaper change!!
6. Please do not allow a child to cry for a long period of
time. If all else fails - contact Nursery Director so the
child's parent can be located.
7. Check instructions on sign-in sheet before feeding any
child.
8. Children are not allowed to have snacks anytime they ask.
Have a specified time for snacks and have children sit down
to eat. When finished, clean up and then back to play! (Some
parents bring their child's own cup. Check diaper bag and
place cup outside of bag so it is easy to remember when
needed. Wash it out before returning to diaper bag.)
9. Please play with children. Be enthusiastic! Sing, dance,
or whatever it takes to make the children love you and the
nursery. Children will respond if you expect them to!
10. If an accident should occur, (no matter how small)
report it to the Nursery Director so that we will be able to
tell the parent. It is always best if they know before they
leave the church.
11. Any sick child should be reported to parents. If the
child is very sick or appears contagious, take the child out
of the nursery and away from other children.
12. If during Sunday School the child appears to be
contagious in any way, please go get the parents in their
Sunday School Class.
Please inform the Nursery Director if a sick child is
regularly brought to the nursery.
13. Please inform the Nursery Director of any problems in
the nursery, for you, the child, or the parents. We welcome
any suggestions and always want to be aware of the situation
in the nursery.
14. Smocks are provided to protect your clothes. Please make
sure to wear your smock and keep it laundered and clean.
15. DO NOT ADMINISTER ANY MEDICATION TO CHILDREN! If a child
is taking medication for anything, instruct the parents that
they should return to the nursery to take care of the
child's needs.
16. NEVER leave a room unattended when children are present.
If you must leave the room, make sure there is someone to
cover for you. Two adults should be in the room at all
times.
17. Before returning diaper bag to parent, check and make
sure all items are in bag.
18. Please put dirty diapers in the Diaper Geni.
19. Each child's crib sheets will be removed upon his/her
leaving the nursery.
20. Please leave room clean and neat. Throw away extra
papers, crafts, etc., put food in containers and put books
and toys back on shelves. At the end of each day, disinfect
toys by spraying them with disinfectant spray located in the
nursery.
21. Please do not bring headphones, study materials,
magazines or newspapers to the nursery for use when children
are present.
